About
I grew up on a small farm in Ohio with a creek and a flop-eared hound dog. After college, the Army Infantry invited me to jump out of airplanes, wander through jungles in the dark, and go on a field trip to Vietnam. I made it back and returned to college to learn about birds and farms. I’m now a retired professor who enjoys songwriting and occasional gigs. I’ve always liked John Prine, Guy Clark, Townes van Zandt, Woody Guthrie, Willie Nelson, Emmylou Harris and many others. My first album, Old Bottles and Bibles, was distributed by CD Baby to YouTube and other media. The new albums, Adventure Sure Enough and Share Your Bluegill are on this website and may make it to other places shortly.
I wrote all the songs except for two co-written with Steve Hanson on the Old Bottles and Bibles album. Steve also recorded, engineered, and produced all three albums and played various instruments on each. Steve Hanson is a friend and an amazing award-winning banjo, guitar, and mandolin musician – he plays a mountain of instruments and makes the songs sound better and me look better. I’m grateful to know and work with him on music. Fiddle master Terry Keefe and others contributed with instruments or backup vocals, and Sue Hedrick contributed her angelic voice for backup vocals on several songs. I’m grateful to have a community of friends who look out for one another and who often provide service to other people or our planet earth home.
